Jennifer Lund, born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1960. Moved to France
in 1975. I am both an artist photographer and a creative concept consultant for
international fashion and fragrance brands. I live and work between Paris
and my studio in La Guéroulde (in Normandy, not far to Paris). My photographic
work explores the body, movement, nature and the 4 natural elements. |

Not respecting water means not respecting oneself since about 99% of the
molecules in the human body contain water molecules.
Water is the liquid essence of life and of our environment. My series of
photographs, "99% Water", started in 1996 and continued since, is a
statement on the vital importance of water. In this series, man is soluble.
He himself becomes water and water shows its natural talent to create, to
give birth and to bring change.

In South Africa alone there are an estimated 200,000 shaman-healers, known
as sangomas or nyangas, who treat up to 80% of the population. They treat
influenza, addiction, depression, diabetes, infertility and some cancers
with a holistic approach. This project is an investigation of the role (be
it controversial) of the traditional healers role in South and Southern
Africa and the importance with which they are regarded.

I recently visited Homyel in Belarus. Belarus is probably the last bastion of Soviet style, communist ideology. In 1986 Homyel suffered tragically from the Chernobyl disaster, and is still heavily contaminated today. I was trying to capture glimpses into another life.

There is nothing like a visit to Havana, Cuba, to awaken the senses. The richness of colour, the texture of the people, buildings and moods combine as a stunning visual feast. The Cuban people have great vitality whether they are dancing, singing, smoking or just sitting and this gives Cuba its soul and this is what I tried to capture.

These six photographs from a larger series capture moments in the life of a family in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Some of the scenes are uncomfortable: the contrast between a family at leisure and people at work. Others are more intimate: a young girl reading a magazine on the verandah.

Photographic perspective, framing and the sense of a real moment arrested combined with constructed sets offers glimpsed narratives from a created universe. The sets and characters are mostly painted polystyrene, card and clay.In some works photographs captured from the outside world complete theensemble. Since it is frequently asked, I note that no digital imaging is used.

Gateshead, County Durhman,
October 2004 - Photographing this amazing silhouette was a beautiful
experience one late afternoon in Autumn. The impressive sculpture
by Antony Gormley stands 22 metres (65 feet) high and has a wing
span of 54 meters (175 feet). The sheer size of this angel has a
profound if not ethereal effect on ones being. One would struggle
to pass by without a glance, if not a stare in its direction. This
celestial figure is seen by 90,000 drivers a day on the A1 and is
Britain's largest sculpture.
