The Cape Town Month of Photography 2012 Festival swung the pendulum in its 5th edition last year to include over 100 bodies of Photographic work in solo and group shows, in prestigious venues within the inner and outer city of Cape Town and online in virtual galleries and archives.
The MOP5 Book - "Autobiography Chronicles of our Time" is out on the shelves in the bookstores (Clarkes; Wordsworth Gardens, Orms, Photohire, Cameraland) and certain galleries (The Photographers GalleryZA; KalkBay Modern and Lovell Gallery), presenting a record of the festival, the photographers showcased and the galleries and venues that participated.
The festival, having run over 12 weeks instead of one month this time around, celebrates photography as a medium of aesthetic, social, political and philosophical value.
Over 20 international photographers were included in this year's Festival titled AUTOBIOGRAPHY: CHRONICLES OF OUR TIMES, hailing from Africa, Europe and the United States of America.
A GRAND PRIZE was awarded for the BEST NEW BODY OF WORK on MOP at the GRAND OPENING at the Castle of Good Hope, on 27 September 2012. Nel de Franca, a Port Elizabeth photographer won the D800 sponsored by Nikon SA and the lens sponsored by Orms Pro Photo Warehouse.
